Guidance for the Way Through
You don't need another person telling you to calm down, think positively, or try harder to get rid of anxiety. You need a way to understand what's happening, why you feel stuck, and how to respond differently when your nervous system sounds the alarm.
The REST Response offers a different approach to anxiety recovery—one designed to help you understand your experience, change your relationship with fear, and build the capacity to move toward your life even when your nervous system is sensitized.
Whether you're learning on your own, accessing resources, working with a guide, or connecting with others who understand the experience, the objective remains the same:
To help you become increasingly confident in your own ability to find the way through.
The REST Response isn't about performing four steps perfectly.
It's a framework for practicing a fundamentally different response to fear.
What the Work May Include
Depending on where you are in your journey:
Education regarding nervous system sensitization and the fear cycle
Recognizing resistance, avoidance, reassurance seeking and symptom monitoring
Navigating panic, intrusive thoughts, DP/DR and uncomfortable physical sensations
Approaching situations your world has become smaller around
Separating normal nervous system activation from the frightening stories the mind creates around it
Rebuilding confidence and self-trust
Learning to live without constantly measuring whether you're “better yet.”
But underneath all of it is one larger objective:
Building your capacity to experience discomfort without allowing discomfort to determine how you live.
